Robert W. Baird of Milwaukee, S.C. Johnson & Son of Racine and Johnson Financial Group of Racine all made Fortune magazine's list of the Top 100 best companies to work for.
Baird, the investment advising company, jumped from 39th to 14th place in the annual rankings. S.C. Johnson, which makes a variety of consumer products, dropped from 27th to 81st. Johnson Financial Group jumped from 37th to 25th.
Fortune said Baird hired more than 200 people in 2008. At S.C. Johnson & Son, the magazine said Fisk Johnson, the company's CEO, sent a card to every employee announcing a two-day extension of the annual holiday break.
At Johnson Financial Group, the magazine said employees were assured their jobs were safe, and they were kept in the loop about industry upheaval via town halls and voicemails.
