A "Support Our Troops" care package drive that encouraged all associates and clients to donate items was among the recent projects of the Johnson Bank Arizona associate volunteer committee. Employees packed and shipped 23 boxes to the unit of an employee's brother in Iraq.
"It was great to get his heartfelt thank you in the mail," said Pam Bennison, assistant vice president for human resources. The committee follows the direction of the bank's founder, Sam Johnson. "We should make each community we do business in a better place because we're there." It stages different types of events so those who can't provide time after work or on weekends still can participate by donating items for food drives holiday stockings or backpacks or by bringing in electronics to be recycled, Bennison said.
"Other projects have included building Habitat for Humanity homes, bowling for Junior Achievement, and walk run and climb fundraisers," said Scott Cornelius regional president. "The efforts have helped employees gain supervisory experience by stepping up and coordinating a project," he said.
